History

Beginning in 2000, Red Deer provided improved sport experiences for regional athletes, coaches and support individuals. As the first of four sport centres, ASDC-Central is joined in this vision by centres in Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, University of Alberta and Mount Royal University in Calgary.

This network of centres can be attributed to a small group of concerned individuals and sporting representatives that met and discussed the needs and demands placed on Central Alberta Sport Organizations. They identified such issues as athlete training programs, sport medicine partnerships, support for elite technical coaches, performance testing, scholarships, funding and much more.

In November 2006, the Central Alberta Sport Development Alliance was proud to announce a new partnership with the Alberta Sport Recreation Parks and Wildlife Foundation. Beginning a new identity, but remaining steadfast in the programming, CASDA is now known as the Alberta Sport Development Centre—Central.

ASDC-Central is operated though a Board of Directors and an Executive Director and since 2000, these individuals have ensured that the focus of ASDC-Central remains consistent with the vision of working with emerging athletes and coaches in Central Alberta. This vision includes four keys to high performance: technical, tactical, mental and physical preparedness. ASDC-Central addresses these needs by introducing athletes to Exercise Physiology, Mental Training, Nutrition, Biomechanical Analysis, Strength and Conditioning Training.

Through our partnership with Red Deer College, ASDC-Central is able to offer programs which include the highly regarded Athlete Enhancement Program, Coach Mentorship Program, Winning Edge Seminars, Customized Programs and Dryland Camps.
